Hygge – pronounced ‘Hue Ga’

There is no English translation for the word Hygge, but it can be described as finding joy in the simple pleasures of everyday life. Furthermore, it is a state of being, a mixture of cosiness, comfort and warmth.

Think candlelight, hot chocolate and cosy blankets…

SOFT LIGHTING
Candles, candles and more candles.

By using lots of candles and fairy lights you can bring a lovely feeling of warmth to your home. Another way to add warmth is to place a selection of tealight holders on dining tables, mantlepieces, in fireplaces or next to your bed, and remember, the twinkly the better!

WARM DRINKS
If Hygge were a drink it would most definitely be a rich velvety hot chocolate, because who doesn’t love a hug in a mug!

First of all you need a good recipe:
cocoa powder
sugar
ground cinnamon
vanilla extract
milk (dairy or nut)
For additional indulgence, why not add some mini marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream – simply delicious!

FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Plan cosy nights in with friends and family. As a result, you can instantly turn a dull, dreary day into a fun day by playing games around the fire with your nearest and dearest.

You certainly shouldn’t strive for perfection when hosting a gathering with friends, sometimes a simple spread of bread and cheese, served with some lovely wine is enough. In addition, you can serve a home baked cake or some scones with cream and jam. Remember to keep it simple and make sure you are spending time with your guests (and are not constantly in the kitchen).

Turn off your phones and television ~ listen to music instead. Why not create a Hygge playlist?!
