When you're about to become a parent, there are so many new emotions to wrap your head around, that sometimes the practical things fall to the wayside a little bit! One of those things could well be your nursery - decorating and setting up a nursery is often considered one of the important preparation steps for expectant parents, but you may find yourself so focused on getting what baby needs, that you may not have time to consider the theme of it!

Have no fear though, because we are here to help! We've gathered some of our favourite children's room décor, and categorised it for you, so whether you need inspiration to springboard from, or a guide to your dream nursery style, we've got you covered.

safari/Jungle themed nursery

Add a little wild side to your little cub's room! A safari theme is a classic neutral style for baby's bedroom, that can be as simple to create as the use of a few accent pieces. Even if you don't fancy going all out with huge murals, it's a fantastically versatile theme. It very much favours warm tones, but can easily be contrasted with rich blues or greens - grasses and ferns are perfect picks if you're hoping to add a little nature to the room, too!

neutral rainbow themed nursery

There's not much quite as delightful in real life as a rainbow; there's a reason this bright and happy natural phenomenon is so associated with babies! You can of course adorn a kids room with traditional rainbow colours, but there is a wealth of rainbow-related items that really play with colours and patterns to great effect. Try mixing and matching to develop not only your personal favourite style, but your child's as well!

under the sea themed nursery

If you're looking to created an underwater bonanza in your child's bedroom, or you have a nice nautical theme running throughout your house, it's definitely doable! Soothing blues and whites really help make this theme so versatile for kids; just like in our Best Nautical Accessories blog, you'll want to carefully consider the colour scheme you're going for. Natural materials are ideal for the style, as well as striped patterns and soft furnishings.

fairytale themed nursery

For as long as humans have shared stories, we've (probably) told our children fairytales, all across the world! Whether you have a little prince or princess on your hands, a pixie, a mermaid, or a knight, there's a wealth of options out there; just think of your favourite books as a child. If you can, murals can be an amazing way to liven a space. It's important to make sure you know what kind of story you want to tell with your décor, so that baby's bedroom can become a wonderful tale.

garden themed nursery

An English or French country garden makes a brilliant nursery theme, especially if Spring is your favourite season! The natural aspects for this children's bedroom theme bring a calmness to it, while helping encourage a love of the outside world as your baby grows. One of the key items to look for when going for this theme is natural, eco-friendly materials; wood, cotton, linen, and jute are the standouts. Other than that, like in nature itself, green is king!

woodland themed nursery

Woodland themes, while evoking feelings of Autumn, are a perfect choice for a kid's nursery or bedroom! To capture a woodland nursery theme, you'll want to keep your eye out for neutral warm whites, browns, oranges, muted reds, and deep greens. As well as animals like foxes, deer, squirrels, owls, or bears, you can also incorporate natural images and shapes like acorns, leaves, and mushrooms into your baby's room to give it that woodland vibe.

unicorn themed nursery

It doesn't get much more classic than a unicorn for kids! Symbolising purity, innocence, and power in Celtic myths, the unicorn has long been universally loved by children of all ages. To bring the unicorn theme into the whole room, you'll want to focus on aspects of design that include glitter, sparkles and sequins; pastel pinks, blues, purples, and creams; and don't forget the fairy lights! It's a fantastic kids bedroom theme that can be easily adjusted through the years.

celestial themed nursery

One of the most enduring themes for a nursery or child's room is, of course, space! If you didn't have glow in the dark stars on your ceiling, you may well have known someone who did. With 90's whimsigoth making a comeback (especially on TikTok), you may be looking to style a nursery with this classic look; one that will grow as they do, yet keep its theme until your child is big enough to express their own personality.
